Bacterial infections represent a rapidly escalating medical problem, even in light of the progress made by modern medicine and the variety of antibiotics currently available.  Unfortunately, the injudicious use of antibiotic agents has contributed to the emergence of so-called “superbugs” that cannot to be treated with many current therapies. Gram-positive bacteria represent some of the most common bacterial infections and include staphylococci, streptococci and enterococci. More often than not, individuals suffering from these infections are seriously ill, and typically require administration of intravenous antibiotics. Unfortunately, these organisms are resistant to once standard therapeutics, and thus represent a critical need for the development of next-generation antimicrobial therapies. To address this issue, Pinnacle has developed novel cyclodextrin compounds and synergistic cyclodextrin antimicrobial formulations. In addition to infectious disease, Pinnacle is also pursuing leads for indications in oncology and pain management.
